Next week edition of the Sinhala tabloid "Aththa" suspended
Chief Editor of Sinhala Language tabloid “Aththa” Dr. Machael Fernando says that this week edition of the newspaper has been suspended by the authorities.
He also told our news team that the same authorities have not informed him of any constructive reason for the instantaneous cancellation of the edition.
The latest edition of this newspaper published by Pragathi Printers of Sri Lanka Communist Party was scheduled to release to the market today.
Chief Editor of the newspaper Dr. Michael Fernando said the distribution of the print edition and the access to Internet edition has been blocked.
Dr. Fernando also said that he suspects a controversial article carried in this week’s edition about the difference of opinions by the members of Sri Lanka Samasamaja Party would be the reason for them to stop the edition.
Our attempt to contact several senior members of Communist Party to comment on the matter was in vain, as none of them responded to our phone calls.
However, Communist Party Deputy Secretary S. Subasinghe told our news team that he was informed by the authorities that this week’s edition has been stopped due to a typographical error.
Meanwhile the Dispatch Manager of Aththa newspaper stated this week’s edition was cancelled due to a technical failure.
