A monitoring system for fishing vessels as per the recommendations of the European Union is to be set up soon following the temporary ban imposed by the European Union.

The system which is to be obtained from Vismaa institute in Denmark is believed to be worth nearly 7 million Euros.

This system will monitor and prevent any illegal fishing activities.

Director General of the Fisheries Department Nimal Hettiarachchi stated that this monitoring system will meet the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission and other locally accepted marine laws.
