The two strikes launched by port workers and container drivers were called off this morning after a meeting between Port Projects Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardana and the trade union representatives.
Representatives from the Customs as well as police department participated in this discussion.
Container drivers launched the strike last night complaining that they were inconvenienced while transporting containers from the Port to Customs due to traffic blocks at Ingurukade junction.
They also staged a protest near Ingurukade junction last night.
Meanwhile a container driver has spitted at the Port Authority Managing Director when he arrived at Ingurukade junction to settle the matter.
Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya Secretary of the Port Authority Branch Shamal Sumanarathna told our news team a port authority security guard was assaulted on this occasion.
A group of port workers took trade union action this morning in protest of the assault on the security guard.
