Nandana Gunathilaka quits the Alliance.
Chairman of the Panadura Urban Council Nandana Gunatilaka said that he decided to quit UPFA as aspirations of the citizens and other progressive fronts in the country have not been fulfilled.
Former JVP stalwart Nandana Gunatilaka was contested under JVP ticket for the Presidential election in 1994.
He was appointed the first chairman of UPFA when the alliance was formed, and later he quit JVP together with Minister Wimal Weerawansa to form NFF.
In 2010, Gunatilaka left NFF as well and obtained the membership of SLFP.
In 2011, he contested for the Panadura Urban Council and obtained 4900 votes and became its Chairman.
He was defeated after contesting as a candidate from UPFA during the recent Western Provincial council election.
It was reported that Nandana Gunathilake was intending to defect the party and join the UNP.
However, speaking during a media briefing held in Colombo today, Nandana Gunathilake said that he will defect the Alliance under the current political backdrop.
