Common candidate MOU postponed.
Due to a technical problem of selecting a common candidate the MoU several opposition political parties were scheduled to jointly sign today has been temporarily suspended.
The People’s Movement for a Just Society said that the relevant MoU would be signed in the next few days.
Many rounds of discussions were held in the past several days for selecting a common candidate based on several matters including the abolishing of the executive presidency.
Accordingly earlier it had been planned to have the relevant MoU signed today.
However the People’s Movement for a Just Society Media spokesman Dr. Nirmaal Ranjith Dewasiri told our news team that the formulation of the said MoU document had by now been already completed and that it would be signed within the next few days on reaching a consensus.
Several Opposition political parties have already expressed their agreement for this MoU for accomplishing within six months several basic matters including the abolishing of the executive presidency by ensuring the victory of the common candidate, validating the 17th amendment and introducing a new election system.
