After the pronouncement for the presidential election is made by the President, the Election Commissioner has authority to issue one gazette notification to announce the dates of nominations and the election.

Our news team enquired the election commission about its future cause of action if the President would make the pronouncement tonight.

Answering our correspondent, Deputy Election Commissioner M.M. Mohammad said that the nominations will be called on a single day within 16 to 21 days from the date of the pronouncement of the gazette.

Accordingly, nominations will be called in between 9 to 11 in the morning on a particular day that would be fixed by the Election Commissioner.

After nominations are called, the Presidential election will be held within 28 to 42 days.

Each candidate who represents a recognized political party should deposit a bond of 50 thousand rupees while an independent candidate is required to deposit a bond of 75 thousand rupees.

The candidate who would obtain at least one vote more than 50% out of vote results will be considered the winner.

The Deputy Election Commissioner said that if none of the candidates would succeed in the fray, all candidates, except the two, who secured the highest number of preferential votes, would be voided from the fray.

Later it would be scrutinized whether the 2nd and the 3rd preferences marked on the voting cards belonging to the removed candidates have been given for the main candidates, and who has received the highest number of such preferential votes.

He further said that facilities have been made available at counting centers with regard to this scrutinizing process.
