The five Indian drug traffickers who were sentenced to death have been pardoned by the President.

President Media Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake confirmed that accordingly, the five convicts would be handed over to Immigration and Emigration Department for further action.

The Colombo High Court sentenced to death 8 persons on October 30th after they were found guilty of engaging in drug dealing in international waters.

Five among the arrested are Indian nationals while the other three are Sri Lankans.

Later an appeal had been filed but it was withdrawn yesterday.
