Date of calling for nominations and the date of holding the Presidential election will be decided today. A special discussion at election secretariat today.
Election Secretariat sources say that the date of calling for nominations and the date of holding the presidential election are scheduled to be published by a gazette notification today.
Reports say that the gazette notification relevant to this would be released after a special discussion is held at the election secretariat this forenoon with Elections Commissioner at the chair.
Last noon President Mahinda Rajapaksa signed the statement expressing the will to call for presidential election.
Responding to a query by our news team Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that he had received this notification.
Speaking to our news team about the discussion to be held at the election secretariat today, additional Election Commissioner M. M. Mohamed had this to say.
Additional Election Commissioner M. M. Mohamed said nominations would be called for, on a day from 16 to 21 days after the release of the gazette notification about the declaration of the presidential election.
The election will be held on a day that falls between 28 days and 42 days after the nomination day.
Accordingly there is a possibility for the presidential election to be held in early January 2015.
The Presidential Election will be held based on the 2014 voters’ list.
