Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says that political power should neither be used to shield power nor to make money, but it should be used for the wellbeing of the masses.
Participating in a ceremony to hand over letters of appointment to several officials of the ministry held at Battaramulla Folk Art Center, Minister Sirisena said government servants should act as the caretakers of the people.
Concluding his speech, Minister Sirisena said that he served as the Health Minister for five years and is committed to serve the people in the future as well.
A rumor is spreading these days that Minister Maithreepala Sirisena is to be picked as the common candidate to contest the forthcoming presidential election.
Journalists questioned Minister Sirisena about this rumor as he was leaving the ceremony venue at Battaramulla today.
Answering journalists, the minister said that a final decision has not yet been taken over the matter.
He also informed the journalists to let time take its course.
