Heavy rains over 100 mm in many areas today as well; warning issued to stay on alert about landslides
Number of tanks has reached spill levels as a result of the incessant rains experienced in the Rajarata areas during the past few days.
The department of Irrigation noted that Rajanganaya, Thisa wewa, Mahawilachchiya and Thuruwila have reached spill levels.
4 spill gates of the Rajanganaya reservoir was opened by last afternoon.
Deputy Media Director of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara said that the Eluwankulama area in the Puttlam-Mannar road has been inundated due to this reason.
He also noted that there is a risk of landslides as a result of the showers experienced in the central hills.
Kalawewa, Basawakkulama, Nuwara wewa, Hurulu wewa and Maha kanadaraawa are also nearing spill levels.
Meanwhile the met department noted that showers could be experienced in many parts of the island today as well.
Duty meteorologist Nadee Rupasinghe said heavy rains over 100 millimetres are also expected in several areas.
