The 7 suspects including Malaka Silva who were arrested in connection with the assault on a foreign couple at a night club on Duplication road were remanded again till November 28th.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammad Sahabdeen remanded the suspects when the case was taken before him today.
The suspects were scheduled to be produced for an identification parade but it was not held as the witnesses did not attend the court.
Malaka Silva was brought to court from Colombo National hospital for the case, and Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammad Sahabdeen ordered the Prison Commissioner to produce a medical report of Malaka Silva to the courts.
Meanwhile, a tense situation erupted at the Colombo Magistrate Court premises this morning as an individual protested against Minister Mervin Silva when he left the court complex after attending the hearing of his son Malaka Silva’s case.
When journalists questioned Minister Silva whether there is any truth in the rumors of his defection, he said that he would not defect.
He also said he would remain with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At that moment, a person who arrived near Minister Silva said that he was also treated unfairly and protested against the minister’s statement.
Later a tense situation erupted when the minister’s security guards attempted to apprehend the protestor.
