Co-operative and Internal Trade Ministry to buy local Big Onions -Video
Co-operative and Internal Trade Minister have decided to buy local Big Onions at a 90 rupee certified price.
Minister in charge of the subject Johnston Fernando said that the purchase of big onions in CWE Lorries will begin from Dambulla from 12 noon today.
While the Government has by now ensured a certified price of 60 rupees per kilogramme for big onion, it has fetched a retail price of 80 to 90 rupees in the market.
Farmers had several days protested near the Dambulla Economic Centre blocking the A 9 road against the sale of imported big onions at the Dambulla economic centre.
As a result of the protest the farmers had begun last afternoon, the Colombo, Jaffna, Trincomalee route and the Colombo and Jaffna – Kandy route were blocked for more than 6 hours.
