The wild life department has decided to construct a 2500 kilo meter electric fence covering areas which are subjected to wild elephant threats.

Director General of the department H D Rathnayaka stated that electric fences are already erected in areas such as Ampara, Polonnaruwa and Anuradapura.

Meanwhile, yesterday a wild elephant entered the Sacred City of Anuradhapura and trampled to death two persons in the neighborhood of the Sacred Bo tree.

One of the victims has been identified as a Civil Defence Force officer, while the other victim was a tom-tom beater serving for the rituals at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

The police media spokesman’s office stated that the elephant has attacked the two in the neighborhood of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
