Common Candidate Maithri commences the battle from Polonnaruwa
The inaugural rally of the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to be held at the Kaduruwela area in Polonnaruwa today.
The rally is held under the theme “supirisindu nayakathwayak, maithri paalanayak” which means “pure leadership and a compassionate administration.”
The event will see the participation of number of political leaders including UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
A pirith chanting will also be held opposite the historic vatadagey in Polonnaruwa in order to invoke blessings on common candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Our Polonnaruwa area correspondent noted that a cover which was erected for 500 bikkhus was suddenly taken down last evening.
However it is reported that 500 bikkhus will be provided the noon almsgiving today.
Meanwhile addressing the Anuradhapura UNP balamandala meeting yesterday, UNP deputy leader Sajith Premadasa said that Samurdi benefits will be increased through a government which will come into power after the victory of the common candidate.
