Water levels of tanks increase to 60%; Sluice gates of 12 tanks opened
Director of the Water Management Unit of the department of Irrigation Janaki Meegasthanna says that the water level of the 73 main reservoirs which comes under the purview of the department has risen up to 60 percent.
She noted that spill gates of 12 such reservoirs have already been opened.
Meanwhile the deputy media director of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara told us that 9,442 individuals belonging to 2,464 families in Mannar, Puttlam, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts are remaining in relief camps.
Meanwhile duty meteorologist of the met department Jeewan Karunaratne said that intermittent rains or thundershowers could be experienced in the North and North central provinces during the next 24 hours.
