Steps have been taken to strengthen the security of the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden.

Its Director General Dr. Cyril Wijesundara told our news team that private security officers had already been deployed for this.

Felling of two white sandalwood trees at the Peradeniya Botanical Garden had been reported recently.

Director General Dr. Cyril Wijesundara said that while a white sandalwood tree planted by late President J. R. Jayewardene is also  in the Peradeniya Botanical Garden the persons who had felled the said two white sandalwood trees had also caused damaged to this tree planted by late President J. R. Jayewardene.
