3 arrested in connection with felling sandalwood trees at Peradeniya botanical gardens.

The 3 suspects, who were arrested for felling white sandalwood trees in Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, have been produced before the courts.

Peradeniya police stated that the arrested 3 persons were the security guards of the botanical garden who were on duty at the time of the incident.  

Director General of the Department of National Botanic Gardens – Siril Wijesundara - stated that they have provided special security to the Botanical Gardens.

Recently it was reported that a group of persons have felled 2 white sandalwood trees at Peradeniya Botanical gardens.

The Director General added that they have caused damages to a white sandalwood tree planted by former President J.R. Jayawardena.

A senior official at Peradeniya Police stated that they have deployed police dogs for the investigations yesterday.
