A consensus with the common candidate to implement 4 immediate national requirements.

With a view to implement 4 immediate national requirements including the cushioning of cost of living; several political parties and civil organizations entered a public consensus with common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena today.

Common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena, UNP National Organizer Ranil Wickremesinghe, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka, Convener of the National Movement for a just society Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, Democratic People’s Front leader Mano Ganeshan and representatives of several other political parties and civil organizations signed the agreement at a ceremony held at Viharamaha Devi Park in Colombo.

Addressing the gathering, common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena said that he would rally all the progressive forces towards a common agenda to build a just, democratic and people’s friendly governance.

Addressing the gathering Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he would rally all parties for a people’s charter.

Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka said in his speech the MoU that was set up today was only a stepping stone for a just society.

Addressing the meeting, Convener of the People’s Movement for a just society Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera said that he did not want to be an onlooker to the events this, time therefore decided to come on stage and mediate in getting the work done.

However no representation was made by the JHU in the signing of the MoU today.

When our news team contacted JHU President Athuraliye Rathana Thera said the official stand of his party with regard to the MoU would be announced in a media conference tomorrow.
