The Buddhist monk assaulted in Ruwanwalla passes away: Villager's burn suspects houses. -Video
A resident Buddhist monk of Ruwanwella Kanangama monastery, Koththatuwe Nandasiri Thera who was assaulted by a group of thugs last month has passed away at Colombo National Hospital.
Later residents in the area have given full vent to the anger by burning down the houses and other properties of the suspects.
Three persons who came to Kanangama monastery had assaulted Nandasiri Thera with clubs.
The Thera who received severe head injuries was admitted to Karawanella hospital and transferred later to Colombo National Hospital.
Police arrested 3 suspects on November 13th and they were released on bail by the Ruwanwella Magistrate on November 25th.
Initial investigations revealed that the assault was carried out on a personal vendetta.
Having infuriated over the death of the monk, residents of Kanangama have burnt two houses belonging to the main suspect.
Another shop, a bus, a motor bicycle, a Canter and a three wheeler belonging to the same suspect have also been put on fire after the incident.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that angry residents have also burnt the house of another suspect.
