Crisis situation at Japura after students evacuated from 2 girls hostels.
The students’ unions of Sri Jayewardenepura University say a crisis situation has emerged after its administration decided to remove the inmates from two girls’ hostels.
The university authorities who visited these two hostels located outside the University last night have informed the inmates that they should leave the hostels by tomorrow.
The Students Union of Sri Jayewardenepura University states that the new hostel built inside the university premises scheduled to be opened shortly.
The Union also stated that the opening is delayed as necessary beds and other amenities are not available yet.
The student Union Secretary Sanath Bandara says that the authorities have decided to close the two hostels in order to shift the beds from old hostels to the new building.
When our news team contacted Sri Jayewardenepura University Vice Chancellor Professor Sampath Amaratunga said that the two leased buildings which housed the girls earlier have to be returned to their owners.
He further said that steps will be taken to manage the affairs without troubling the students.
