According to the government, the fuel prices were reduced not because of the presidential election.

Speaking during a media briefing held at the Ministry of Petroleum this morning, Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that fuel prices were reduced due to several reasons including the price drop in the world market.

The price of petrol and diesel has been reduced by 7 Rupees per litre while the price of a litre of kerosene oil has been reduced by 5 Rupees.

Therefore the new price of a litre of 92 Octane petrol will be 150 Rupees, a litre of diesel 111 Rupees and a litre of Kerosene will be 81 Rupees.

The last price reduction for fuel was made on the 16th of September.
