Digambaram and Radakrishnan pledge support to Common Candidate Maithri
The Kamkaru Jathika Peramuna and Kandurata Janatha Peramuna, two main parties which represent the upcountry decided today to support common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena.
Accordingly, National Languages and Social Integrity deputy minister Palani Digambaram and Botanical Garden and Public Recreation deputy minister V. Radha-krishnan resigned from their portfolios today.
Having sent their letters of resignation to the president, the two former deputy ministers participated in a media briefing led by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Opposition Leader’s Office this afternoon.
One Provincial Councilor and 20 PS members from Kandurata Janatha Peramuna represent the Central Provincial Council while 3 Provincial Councilors and 14 local government institutions members from Kamkaru Jathika Peramuna represent current provincial governments.
However V. Radhakrishnan told the media briefing that the common candidate agreed to include in his election manifesto, 3 demands by his party including allocation of a land bloc for each family in the estate sector.
Speaking to journalists during the meeting, Uva Provincial Council’s Opposition Leader Harin Fernando said there is no truth in the rumors that he is going to defect.
