Update: People will decide on Gammanpila; says JHU.
JHU Deputy Secretary and Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila has decided to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming presidential election.
Udaya Gammanpila resigned from his ministry post of the Western Provincial council on November 18th following JHU’s decision to support common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena.
However JHU in a notice issued this morning with regard to the resignation of its Deputy Secretary Udaya Gammanpila stated JHU gives priority to restore good governance and democracy in the country.
The JHU notice quoted Udaya Gammanpila as saying during the party convention that immediate measures should be taken before the presidential election to restore good governance and democracy in the country.
He had also said in his speech during the party convention that JHU was not ready to support the government for mere promises.
The JHU in its notice also stated that it has confidence to achieve its targets within the common opposition although there are different forces contributing towards its victory.
The notice further stated that the party is not aware of the reason for Udaya Gammanpila to resign from the JHU.
