30 Sri lankan fishermen in Indian custody set free.
The Sri Lankan government said it is happy with the decision taken by the Government of Tamil Nadu to release the Sri Lankan fishermen under its custody and their boats before Christmas.
The government noted "with satisfaction" the media reports on a communication to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O. Panneerselvam informing of the decision to release on 22nd December 2014, 30 Sri Lankan fishermen and 19 boats currently in the state's custody.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said the state government is prepared to release the Sri Lankan fishermen and boats under its custody before Christmas after completion of formalities and expects the Sri Lankan government to reciprocate the gesture.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his discussions in Kathmandu on the sidelines of the 18th SAARC Summit in November 2014 has requested Prime Minister Modi to facilitate the release of the Sri Lankan fishermen in custody in the States of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
