The 2015 budget of the Ambilipitiya Urban Council was defeated by two votes.

While only the two UNP councilors voted against the budget, no Government party councilor attended the council meeting yesterday.

The Ambilipitiya Urban Council with UPFA majority rule comprises five Government Party councilors and two UNP councilors.

Although all councilors had been informed that the voting on the budget would be taken   yesterday, only the two UNP councilors and the UPFA Councillor Vijitha G. Punchikewaa who had recently said that he would support Common Candidate Maitripaala Sirisena had come for the meeting.

Accordingly the Ambilipitiya UNP Urban Councillors requested the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council that the council activities be carried out.

In accordance with this request while a provincial council official arrived for supervising the Urban Council activities, subsequently Councillor Vijitha G. Punchihewaa was elected as temporary chairman with the two UNP Councillors proposing and seconding the election of councilor Punchihewa for the temporary chairmanship.

At the voting held subsequently the two UNP councilors voted against the budget.

However the voting on the second reading of the Ambilipitiya urban council budget will take place tomorrow.

The Thero who was elected as Chaiman of the Urban Council representing the JHU said that he would support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential election this time.
