25 arrested over violence related activities: Police search for Galnaawa PS chairman.
The number of violence incidents have been on the increase as the presidential election date is nearing.
Meanwhile Wanduramba police stated that a stage build for common opposition candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s election rally to be held today in Wanduramba has been burnt down by a certain group of people.
A lorry which had been stationed nearby has also been damaged due to the fire.
Meanwhile a vehicle and 4 motorcycles stationed near a political rally at Galnewa in Anuradhapura have been damaged last evening.
Another incident where an attack on a UPFA election campaign rally at Madurankuliya in Puttalam was also reported last night.
Executive Director of Paffrel Organization stated that his organization has so far received 59 election related incidents.
Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told our news team his department has received 35 election related violence incidents and 25 suspects have already been arrested.
He also said police are searching for Galnewa PS chairman and his accomplice in connection with the burning down of the vehicle and 4 motor cycles in Galnewa.
Meanwhile the complaining unit established at the Election Secretariat has received 23 election related complaints, and the highest number of complaints has been reported from the Kandy district.
