17 JHU LG members to support President; Gammanpila to form new party
17 JHU local government members out of 29 have pledged their support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming Presidential election.
A media conference was held today at the Sri Lanka Foundation in Colombo with the participation of the 17 local government members including 7 monks.
Meanwhile a SLFP Colombo district organizer and former Provincial councilor Sagara Senarathna said that he would support common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena.
Sagara Senarathna is the brother-in-law of Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga.
The government controlled Walapane Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Jagath Kumara, PS member Jayantha Kularathna, Hikkaduwa UPFA PS member Gnanadasa Silva and NFF Rathgama electorate chief organizer Asela Ranganath pledged their support to the common candidate during a public rally held today at Kosgoda.
At the same time a group of members of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party led by the sister of film star turned politician late Vijaya Kumaratunga, Rupa Kumaratunga pledged their support to the common candidate.
Addressing a media conference, JHU defect Udaya Gammanpila said he would form a new political party.
