The disaster Management centre states that due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions 2005 families in Anuradapura, Pollonaruwa, Puthlam, mannar and Trincomolee are in distress.

Meanwhile, Sluice gates of 6 reservoirs including Parakrama Samurdaya were opened today due to incessant showers.

Disaster Management centre stated that sluice gates of Randenigala, Iginimitiya, Thabbowa, Kawudulla and Rajanganaya have been opened.

Meanwhile, The National Building Research Organisation today issued a landslide warning for 4 districts in the country, if prevailing inclement weather conditions continue in the next 24 hours.

Director of the organisation R M S Bandara stated that Landslides are expected in Matale, Kandy, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Heavy rain falls more than 150 mili mters are also expected at some places.

Duty Meteorologist Buddika Bandurathna requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning.
