Eastern Provincial council ruling party and the opposition hold equal power.
The number of member seats of the Eastern Provincial Council has been equaled after its leader of the house Priyantha Pathirana decided to extend his support for common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena today.
Earlier the ruling UPFA held 22 seats out of 37 seats of the Eastern Provincial Council.
This number reduced to 19 as 3 members of UPFA coalition All Ceylon Muslim Congress crossed over to the common opposition yesterday.
With the cross over by Priyantha Pathirana today, the number of seats belong to UPFA reduced to 18.
The 18 seats held by Opposition include 3 seats by All Ceylon Muslim Congress, 11 seats by TNA and 4 seats by UNP.
Priyantha Pathirana came second of the preferential list from the Trincomalee district by obtaining 12 thousand 393 votes in the PC election held in 2012
