President orders to increase the dry ration grant for flood victims
Disaster Management centre states that 574 thousand 727 people have been affected due to adverse weather while 77 thousand 727 people have been housed in 298 relief centres.
The government has deployed security forces and relief workers to distribute food parcels and clear the affected areas.
Deputy Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodipillai elaborating further had this to say.....
Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to increase the cash grant for dry rations to be given to the weather-afflicted families.
He has instructed to increase the current 805 rupees grant upto 1500 rupees per week.
The President took this decision during a special meeting to evaluate the relief measures given to the affected families at Temple Trees today.
Meanwhile common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena in a notice stated that he extends sympathy to thousands of the families affected due to inclement weather.
He also requested all organizations that meant to handle relief measures to accelerate their activities.
