More than 650 thousand residents in 17 districts have so far been affected due to inclement weather in the island.

Disaster Management Center stated that 80 thousand 736 persons have been sheltered in 334 camps.

Meanwhile the MET Department predicted more strong winds and heavy rain in many parts of the island due to the low pressure situation prevailing in the sea off the South Eastern direction.

56 reservoirs out of 73 that belong to the Department of irrigation are overflowing.

All sluice gates of the Deduru Oya have been opened and the road between Kurunegala and Anuradhapura via Ella is inundated near Ridibendi Ella.

Traffic on this road has completely been blocked due to the floods at Ridibendi Ella.
