The planters union states that as a result of the “ Go Slow” trade union action launched  by estate workers the loss per day amounts to 120 million rupees.

Today is the 7th day of the ‘go slow’ trade union action launched by estate workers demanding increase of the daily wage up to 1000 rupees.

While the current daily wage of an estate worker is 485 rupees the workers are engaged in this trade union action demanding that it be raised up to 1000 rupees.

Although estate workers plucked tea leaves while engaging in a “go slow” action, estate superintendents refused to accept the tea leaves.

Estate workers had gone away after dumping on the ground in front of tea factories the tea leaves they had plucked.

Chairman of the planter union Roshan Rajathurai stated that even as at present tea exports have reduced by 40 percent.
