Disappointed paddy Famers in queues today as well
Reports of farmers who were disappointed over the inability to sell their paddy harvest due to the lack of a proper marketing mechanism reached our news team today as well.
Farmers from Matale, Wilgamuwa, Anuradhapura and Eppawala told our news team that they are compelled to wait in long queues for several days to sell their harvest at a guaranteed price.
Meanwhile, Matale District Secretary Neil de Alwis said paddy purchasing in the district is continuing hassle free.
At the same time, National Organizer of All Ceylon Farmers’ Association Namal Karunarathna said the government has no proper mechanism to buy paddy harvest.
When contacted, Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board M.B. Dissanayake said the shortcomings that occurred during the recent past have interrupted the paddy purchasing process.
He also anticipated that the President and the Prime Minister would draw their attention to this issue soon.
