500 metric tons of paddy stored at Mattala airport
According to the Paddy Marketing Board, the warehouse which was established at Mattala airport on the 2nd of this month has stored over 500 metric tons of paddy by now.
Storing paddy at the cargo terminal of Mattala airport commenced on the 2nd of this month, however, it was halted due to a protest staged by the residents of the area and the workers of the airport by stopping the lorries transporting the harvest.
However, the Police took measures to disperse the protestors.
Later, the paddy was stored at the Mattala airport cargo terminal under special police security.
Meanwhile, the yield of Yala season is 120 thousand metric tons.
The Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board stated that they have already purchased 90 thousand metric tons by now.
In addition, Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board M.B. Dissanayake further stated that they have deployed mobile paddy purchasing vehicles to buy the harvest from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa districts.
