A project of cultivating jasmines for export was commenced for the first time in Sri Lanka in Vavunia- Puliyankulama area.

Jasmine plants were imported from India for the purpose.

It is mentioned that a land of around 25 acres was allocated for the cultivation project.

There is a high demand in the international market for jasmines which are used in the production of high quality perfumes.
