Sri Lanka is experiencing record surplus rice production harvested from major cropping seasons- Yala and Maha.

Hiru News learned that the stock rooms of the paddy Marketing Board accommodates nearly 250,000 metric tons of paddy reaped during Yala and Maha seasons last year.

A correspondent of paddy Marketing Board told Hiru News that the Ministry has decided to trade paddy to Private sector at 32.50 rupees per kilogram.

The Paddy Marketing Board has generated 1200 million rupee revenue by selling 90,000 metric tons of paddy to private companies operating in paddy industry.
