Sri Lanka's export earnings declined by 19 per cent in December last year, while over the whole year of 2015 export earnings declined by 5.6 percent, Central Bank stated.

According to the Central Bank's head of economic research K. M. M. Siriwardena, the export earnings in 2015 amounted to 10.5 billion dollars.

Decline in exports of tea and seafood mainly contributed to the lower export earnings.

Meanwhile, import expenditure also declined in December 2015 by 8.5 per cent to 2.7 billion dollars contributing to an overall decline of 2.5 per cent to 18.9 billion dollars.
