Sri Lanka’s revenue from tourism rose to 2.98 billion dollars from 349 million dollars over the last 6 years after the island nation’s civil war ended in 2009.

In 2009, around 400 thousand tourists arrived in Sri Lanka and the numbers rose to around 1.8 million in 2015.

Foreign exchange earnings from tourism ranked third, next to workers’ remittances and income from garment exports.
