Sri Lanka trade deficit contracts by 11.9 percent in February

Sri Lanka's trade deficit was contracted by 11.9 percent to 552 million US dollars in February 2016 from 626.5 million US dollars a year earlier.

This was according to the Central Bank data released in its External Sector Performance Review yesterday.

Earnings from exports continued to decline for the twelfth consecutive month in February 2016.

It recorded a 1.7 percent decline year-on-year, to 887.7 million US dollars, largely reflecting lower commodity prices in the international market.
