Vegetable prices have gone up in an unprecedented manner throughout the country.
According to the Dambulla Economic Centre wholesale price of a kilo of each vegetable has gone up to a level between Rs. 130 and 150.
The wholesale price of carrots and beans stands between Rs. 180 and 200 per kilo.
In addition, it is said in the information furnished by the economic centre that the wholesale price of capsicum stands between Rs. 450 and 500.
Consequently the retail vegetable price has fetched more than Rs. 200 per kilo.
In addition reports say that wholesale and retail prices of pulse, pumpkin, cabbages, snake gourds and brinjals have gone up.
The price of vegetables has thus gone up as a result of interruption to vegetable production resulting from the heavy rains.
