Dealers said that the Sri Lankan rupee eased yesterday, as importer dollar demand outpaced mild greenback sales by exporters.

The market expects the downward pressure to continue until some steady foreign inflows come in.

Meanwhile, the dollar struggled in Asia yesterday, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s focus on protectionism ahead of fiscal stimulus fuelled suspicions his administration might be content to gain a competitive advantage through a weaker currency.
