Controlled price on Sugar and chicken removed; No price increase; say sugar importers

Sugar importers have stated that in spite of the government’s announcement that controlled prices previously implemented have been removed, the price of sugar will not be increased at this time.

The sugar importers association noted that there will be no shortage of sugar during to the festive season.

The ministry of industry and commerce, issuing a communiqué yesterday, noted that the 93 rupee controlled pricing for a kilo of sugar had been removed.

The ministry also noted that the 490 rupee controlled price on a kilo of skinless chicken had also been removed.

Sugar importers association secretary Hemaka Fernando noted that in spite of this, the prices of sugar will not increase immediately.
