A group of personnel representing Sri Lanka are scheduled to engage in an official tour to Oman within this week to research on the purchase of fuel from the Sultanate.
According to the Petroleum Resources Ministry the team will be headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources along with several senior officers of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
Subsequent to the economic sanctions posed on Iran by the US, Sri Lanka signed an MOU with Oman recently, for the import of crude oil and refined oil to meet the requirements of fuel within the country.
Accordingly, the Sri Lankan delegation to Oman will also hold discussions with Omani representatives on the import of fuel.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has focused attention on reaching an agreement with Saudi Arabia and Vietnam in order to enable the import of crude oil from the countries to Sri Lanka.
The Petroleum Resources Ministry stated that discussions are currently underway with the two countries and Sri Lanka regarding the import of crude oil.
