Sri Lankan shares closed weaker Tuesday with turnover beginning to pick up from low levels after a long holiday with interest still mainly on 'penny stocks', brokers said.
The main All Share Price Index fell 0.39 percent (21.22 points) to 5,413.58, while the more liquid Milanka index fell 0.36 percent (17.73) to close at 4,911.83.
Turnover rose to 442 million rupees, according to stock exchange provisional figures.
Index heavyweight John Keells Holdings closed at 209.40 rupees, down 30 cents, with just over a million shares traded.
