The price of the B – Onions has taken a dramatic plunge with the onset of the B – Onion harvest.

Farmers state that prior to the harvest, the wholesale price of a kilo of B – Oinon was hovering between 75 rupees and 90 rupees and currently the price has plunged to between 40 rupees and 45 rupees per kilo.

Successful harvests have been reported from Dambulla, Sigiriya, Galewela, Dewahuwa, Aunaradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts.

The farmers request the government to either impose import taxes on the B – Onions imported to Sri Lanka or provide a guaranteed price for local B – Onions.
