For the first time in Agricultural history, Sri Lanka is planning to export maize flour bringing in valuable foreign exchange to the country.

Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane, speaking to media at the historic opening of Sri Lanka's first Export Processing Village in Galenbindunuwewa, said that research in this regard was complete and samples were sent to potential overseas buyers for approval.

He said that he hoped to get the private sector involved in this, and the government is ready to provide the findings of the research to the private sector so that they in turn could set up processing plans.
