South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Secretary General Ahamed Saleam, addressing the seventh South Asian Free Trade Area Ministerial Council meeting in Colombo said good communication, efficient and fast customs procedures and easy certification of products will contribute enormously for South Asian nations to increase their current 2.4 billion dollars worth of trade.

Saleam said trade under SAFTA has crossed the 2.4 billion dollar mark, due to member states reducing sensitive lists by at least 20% before the 17th SAARC Summit in 2011.

The Secretary General also stressed the need to reduce sensitive lists, non-tariff barriers and to streamline customs procedures to enhance trade between the member countries .
