Petroleum Trade Unions warned today that the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery is likely to close down from the 10th of November if a crude oil tanker does not arrive in the country soon.
Ceylon Petroleum Corporation JSS General Secretary Ananda Palitha explained this situation during a media briefing held in Colombo today.
Our news team contacted the Petroleum Corporation Chairman S. Amarasekera to comment on the Trade Union allegations.
He said an oil tanker was expected to reach Colombo on the 27th of October but it did not reach in time.
He also said that Sri Lanka cannot import oil from Iran due to US sanctions, and the expected oil tanker from United Arab Emir did not turn up in time.
