Sri Lanka to launch Rs. 4 bn campaign to promote tea
An aggressive campaign to promote Sri Lankan tea in sophisticated global markets will be launched early 2014 with a Rs. 4 billion budget.
Hasitha de Alwis, Director Promotions, Sri Lanka Tea Board, says that it is true that these plans were in place earlier, but were not activated due to inadequate funds.
He said that ttargeted markets could include the US as well. He added that the tea smallholders and the tea factory owners, although currently in a lucrative situation, cannot rest on their laurels, but move into a better product that could be marketed at enhanced levels well beyond the 3.60 dollars average obtained now.
