Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said the Central Bank is planning to bring back 10 to 20 tones of Sri Lankan coins lying in tills of temples in India.

In a bid to recirculate idle coins, coin collection programs will be continued across the country and banks will be instructed to collect tills issued by them to their customers within a period of 12 months, to bring coins back to circulation.

The clean note policy will continue and currency notes that are unfit for circulation will be withdrawn and destroyed through a robust process.
